Pests and Diseases is one of the major challenges affecting cassava growing in the Busoga sub region. This has caused poor yields leading to hunger and low living standards, cassava being a drought resistant crop that many families in Busoga region depend on. We had a hands on training with 150 grassroots women in their respective groups from kaliro Nansololo subcounty, Gadumile subcounty, Kaliro town council and Kamuli Kagumba Nabitalo, Nambale and buggaga. Sensitizing grassroots women farmers on identifying cassava pests and diseases, solutions and how to choose disease free planting materials for good yields.

Busoga is a big region more work needs to be done sensitizing communities as we strive for food availability, access and affordability in the vulnerable communities. Many farmers plant diseased planting materials which is causing poor yields out of ignorance and lack of access to good planting materials.
