SWID, under the guidance of land rights expert Mwesigwa Samuel, empowers women and girls in Kamuli and Kaliro, Uganda, to secure women’s land rights through awareness campaigns and collective land title applications.
From an expert development perspective, the SWID Annual Report 2024–2025 demonstrates the effectiveness of rights-based, community-led programming in addressing structural gender inequalities. The report aligns with national development priorities and international frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 1, 2, 5, 11, and 13), by integrating land tenure security, food systems transformation, climate resilience, and women’s economic empowerment. The Slum Women’s Initiative for Development (SWID) is making significant strides in empowering women and girls on land rights in Kamuli and Kaliro districts, thanks to strong support from the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF). The initiative, funded through a generous AWDF grant, has already reached over 500 women, equipping them with knowledge and skills to navigate land ownership and access challenges.
