Slum Women’s Initiative for Development sponsored by AWDF

Awareness raising of 100 urban women / girls from 10 groups on women/girls land rights and control,
process of land ownership and security of tenure.

In Uganda ,only 16%of women own land in their own right with the vast majority still having access through male relatives. This has hindered women’s participation in decision making as regards land use and transfer in private, public and civic space.
This is no exception to women and girls in Jinja southern division in the new jinja City. For example, in Walukuba housing estate, there are many incidences of double allocation of plots . This is because many have not processed land titles. Due to ignorance land grabbers have taken advantage of the situation this has rendered poor women and girls landless.
Swid with support from AWDF( African women Development Fund is raising awareness for women and girls to access, own and control land as well as participate in decision making as a years project entitled “promoting women and girls rights to land in jinja southern Division in Jinja City Uganda “.
This project is essential because land security rights for women/girls is critical for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals particularly Eradicating poverty, ending hunger and gender equality (Goals 1,2 and 5)
